The seventh issue of Nintendo Power featured a 16 page section devoted to Mega Man 2, a recent release in North America at the time. This article includes possibly the first notable instance of Mega Man being called "The Blue Bomber."

The Blue Bomber moniker has since been used both by fans and official media, including Super Smash Bros for Wii U.

Elsewhere in the article, Mega Man is also called the "Indigo Invader" and a "New Crusader of Justice." These nicknames have not had as much staying power.
