Political commentators rejoice every year at the topical excuse to either draw their opponents as massive bags of hot air or show things breaking out of control. This comic is one of the more tasteful examples.
In all seriousness, multiple people were injured in the 1997 parade, with the Cat in the Hat being the biggest offender. This led to new regulations regarding which balloons could be flown.
