If "trans" as you explained is already an abbreviation of a noun then a trans isn't an insult and is in fact proper grammar. A boy. A girl. A person. A dog. A cat. A whale. A human. A table. A chair. A bag of flesh and bones. These are all correct uses of the article A. That person was in fact using A correctly. Do you even know what the term subject and object in grammar actually means? It doesn't mean some inanimate thing it's not an insult. I'm not going to bring politics into language. You can be offended all you want, but to say that they're using improper english is very wrong. I fully acknowledged that you can have whatever sentiments about being called "trans" or "a trans" that you want. I said that I wasn't bringing feelings or bias into the conversation, so that you could understand exactly my point. My issue-my ONLY issue was that you were slamming someone over what you thought was improper grammar. Again. Gramatically they are correct. Whether you like it or not is an entirely seperate issue. One that I said I was neither beinging to the table nor considering as a basis for what I was talking about. You can like it or you can not like it, or maybe you don't care. Who knows? Who cares? It's not relevant to my point. Telling you that you made the wrong call about some person's grammar, and telling you why their GRAMMAR (again, only their GRAMMAR) isn't transphobic. Show less REPLY Ashley Allen 1 week ago (edited) @V K to put it more simply because I'm really trying to not get you heated over this: I'm telling you that as it currently stands within textbooks and what's being taught in schools about grammar and punctuation. Their sentence is gramatically correct. For example: If I talked outside and told the first person I see "You are a dog." That is a gramatically correct sentence . Does that make it right? No. Humanly decent? Hell no. Would they have a right to be offended? 100% But it IS gramatically correct. THAT is what I mean when I say that the person's sentence is correct without bringing in politics. Show less It 1 REPLY VK 11 hours ago (edited) @Ashley Allen well maybe instead of following what basic white man told you to say, since most of them are ancient and the word transgender isn't in school books so therees no way of knowing what's grammatically correct or not, you should take my advice as an actual trans woman and correct what you are saying like a f------ adult in 2021, and not one from fifty years ago who would rather shoot me in the head than listen to me. Because that's the kind of experience you're going to get if you don't want to listen to me. REPLY
