My assumption is it's an animation flex. Less like a "we're too lazy to do the whole thing in 2d" and more "we can do both so Disney can suck our dick".

As much as I dislike adding CGI, it wouldn't be too shocking to me that WB are throwing everything and the kitchen sink as a budget flex.
