Free speech should be an absolute, so in theory I should be able to say anything I want. But if I say something like "the holocaust never happeneď(have actually heard someone say this before) then I should be educated before being punished. Again if I make a derogatory remarks about a gay person then I should be educated on why this is wrong and If I continue to make these sorts of remarks then I should be punished. In my opinion, a lot of issues people have with free speech is an issue with an individual being ignorant and this can be fixed with education. Don't get me wrong, I object to yelling slurs at the gay community too, but I don't pretend that any rules I'd impose to restrict that are perfectly in-line with absolute freedom of speech.
