Also Iñarritu put the actors through hell. Surprisingly- sympathetic and in- depth, you don't see many perspectives from Japan in WWII And directed by CLINT EASTWOOD, if you'll believe it PATTON (1971) A biopic on one of America's most controversial generals Kind of celebrates his brash aggressiveness and delusions of grandeur Utilized hundreds of extras for the epic battle scenes Got me interested in the Apollo missions when I was a kid Kind of an "America, F--- Yeah" narrative Neil Armstrong Most biopic, very well breathtaking shot launch sequence I've ever seen Holy f---, we really did that ARAN THE GREAT ESCAPE (1964) About a mass escape of Allied prisoners from a German POW camp in 1944 Really makes THE LAST EMPEROR (1987) About Pu Yi, the last Emperor of China history campy and fun The beautifully-shot (Vittorio Storaro is the GOAT) tragic story of how an opulent empire trapped in the 17th century turned into a communist dictatorship in under 50 years DARKEST HOUR (2017) About Winston Churchill's accession to power and his handling of Dunkirk APOLLO 13 (1995) THE KING'S SPEECH (2011) LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1963) About the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission and the NASA ingenuity that brought them home About King George's struggles with a speech impediment at the beginning of WWII Biopic about one of the most interesting and based figures of the 20th century H-------- Mark Zuckerberg is evil (0 UNITED 93 (2006) FIRST MAN (2019) PATRIOTS DAY (2016) THE QUEEN (2006) About the Boston Marathon Bombing and its aftermath About Lizzie's reaction to the death of Diana Could have been a cheap cop-out but it's extremely well done and comes off like a noir mystery film, but it's all real Has been overshadowed by Dunkirk (2017) but it's the better film Great score too I had no idea about this but it's important to learn about how even kings are vulnerable Especially touching because we all remember it Really shows how far THE REVENANT (2015) THE SOCIAL NETWORK (2010) THE AVIATOR (2004) Leonardo DiCaprio claws his way to an Oscar win as he portrays Hugh Glass, a real-life fur trader who was mauled by a bear and lived Biopic about Howard Hughes, the autistic multimillionaire aviator About the Beautifully-shot founding of Facebook and the (David Fincher) betrayals and and scored litigation (Trent Reznor) surrounding it KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (2005) A three-hour epic about the Crusades with a bunch of big name stars political power travels in the United States, sobering And it portrays the Muslims sympathetically Puts the opulence of the Roaring 20s on full display Really grand film but gets boring in the third act Very immersive and epic in scale THE KING (2019) A recent Netflix film about the Battle of Agincourt and the events surrounding it Put it on for Timothee Chalamet, left with a new appreciation for medieval history Well-shot and acted, great battle scenes CHAPPAQUIDDICK (2017) About that time Ted Kennedy killed a girl and it got covered up Battle of Mogadishu Three hours long and worth every second "Aww poor me I'm too rich" Seriously though it's cool to see some of the Queen's psychology My favorite historical movie BLACK HAWK DOWN (2001) About the high-octane Testosterone- fueled guys' filn THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD (2007) Takes a subject I wasn't at all interested in the assassination of Jesse James - and made it the most interesting thing in the world Extremely well-shot, acted, and scored The last six minutes are a masterpiece
