It really seemed like what little character development these two had was focused on their independence from each other, considering everything about them initially was a product of their mom's overbearing influence ( The concealment stones, Edric dating other people, finding confidence in himself to be individualistic).

Yet at this very last frame, it seems like they're still tied at the hip. It was a pretty fast epilogue, it's safe to say they couldn't focuses on everyone's situation, but it seems they could've added in some unnamed characters with them to at least hint that they've branched out. Like how Mordecai was shown to have grown as a person by finding his wife during Regular Show's ending montage, and not just trying to go after CJ or Margaret again.
