I did things to promote myself, instead of only promoting the brand. I decided: I will not be shamed by this. I said yes, I get attention. And I benefit from that - but so do my employers. People connect with people, not with brands, and that makes me an asset. If you disagree, I told him, then I respect that - - but I am not the person for you. I didn't get the job. Did self-promotion lose me that job? Maybe. But that job wouldn't have helped me grow. It would have made me feel stuck - so I'm better off without it. Upon seeing the smashed van, EMS thought everyone was dead. They were on their way home from their out-of-town school with 7 other boys. Thank G-d, with *many* miracles, all 9 boys walked out with barely a scratch. Sometimes we're heading full speed in the wrong direction. We're blinded to see it. It takes a full stop to regroup, take a step back, and reevaluate where we're headed. A company moving millions of dollars can't afford to look cheap. People get stuck on extras, losing focus on what actually influences decisions. Fancy booths or brand books don't influence people to buy. A premium brand and website do.

But truthfully, companies get bloated. They have 100 people doing the job that 25 people can do. PE firms aren't "churning and burning." Reducing headcount IS a form of value creation.
