France has been referenced a few times during the show, with french words and emblems used (such as the lily flower on AppleBloom's flank when she starts speaking French in the cutiepox episode).

A little bit after 9:00, FLuttershy talks about "French haute couture", implying that Equestria exists in the same realm as France. Added to Explosive Lasers comment, we can safely assume that Equestria is on Earth.
