Dating Sim Video Game to be Banned? COMMUNITY leaders have rallied behind a proposal to ban controversial dating sim 'Katawa Shoujo. an independently developed computer game that was recently released on the internet and is allegedly causing serious psychological damage to gamers. Katawa Shoujo is a visual nover style game featuring Japanese anime character designs. The goal of the game is to have sex with a harem of virtual girlfriends who suffer from various disabilities such as blindness or missing limbs. The game has come under fire for it's depiction of disabled girls as sex objects and for causing extreme psychological damage, which players call "The feels" ("Feelings"), Wired magazine ranked it as #2 on a list of the 100 most dangerous video games of the last decade. Disability rights groups have focused much attention on Katawa Shoujo. In an article covered by CNN. Taina Bien-Aime of the organization Equality Now has advocated for the game to be removed from the internet. "This is a game that has absolutely no place on the market Bien-Aime said. Fans of Katawa Shoujo treat it as more than just a game. Most players report feeling depressed and suicidal after completing the game. Discussion boards on the official website provide a space for troubled players to share their thoughts and engage in self harm or even suicide pacts. Some players say they experienced an extreme form of vertigo and vivid hallucinations long afler they had finished playing whille others claim they suffered amnesia, in some cases forgetting their own name. Many players were haunted by horrific nightmares after coming under the game's influence. Everglades High student Jake Storey was playing the game during lunch break in the computer lab when another child noticed the graphic content of the game and pointed It out to a nearby teacher. Jake was visibly distraught as his USB flashdrive containing the game was confiscated. He was sent to another room and left alone for the remainder of the break, when the teacher returned he had hung himself from the light fitting using his belt. Other players have reportedly injured themselves to become closer to their chosen disabled girl, or waifu" (a corruption of "Wife"). High school student Ryan Dunham severed an arm and there are reports of dlstressed gamers poking thelr eyes out or burning thelr face on a stovetop. The developers of Katawa Shoujo were not available for comment
