According to Wikipedia, there are only 19 known films that focus on fandom. In the context of the film industry in general, that's not a big number, so it's still a pretty big deal.

Plus this places MLP:FIM in the company of such august franchises as Star Trek, Star Wars, anime, Doctor Who, Dungeons and Dragons, and Firefly. Nothing wrong with that!
