Hoodweeb, also known as Hood Weeb, is an internet slang term referencing a Black American who likes anime, combined with the slang "weeb," a person (typically of non-Asian descent) heavily interested in anime, manga and Japanese culture. The term gained viral attention in early March 2025 after YouTuber Malcome Xnox posted a satire video titled "What Is A 'Hoodweeb'? And HOW They Are Destroying ANIME," which featured a thumbnail with American rappers Kendrick Lamar and King Von, YouTuber RDCWorld and two female anime characters, inspiring discussions on Twitter / X regarding racism in the anime community, as well as memes mocking the absurd YouTube thumbnail.
Origin
The earliest known description of the term "hood weeb" was posted on Urban Dictionary on March 5th, 2021, by user @nocapman,[1] who defined the slang as directed to "weebs from the hood or a bad neighborhood who watches anime. Usually, they have the same taste in anime. This usually is shonen anime," and, that "enjoyment of manga may vary based on the person." The post received roughly 55 votes in four years.

On March 8th, 2025, YouTuber Malcome Xnox[2] uploaded a video titled "What is a 'Hoodweeb'? and HOW they are destroying ANIME," using a thumbnail image featuring rappers Kendrick Lamar and King Von, YouTuber RDCWorld and two female anime characters. The video (seen below) is a satirical essay on the "hood weeb" and received over 21,000 views, 1,500 likes and 400 comments in four days.

On March 10th, 2025, X[3] user @frxstbytez posted a screenshot of Malcome Xnox's YouTube thumbnail and video title (seen below), which amassed over 6 million views and 79,000 likes in two days. The post also started a viral debate on the platform regarding the "hoodweeb" term.

For instance, on March 11th, 2025, X[4] user @scroodledoodles uploaded a clip of the satire video (seen below), writing, "Literal greatest video oat," which received over 88,000 views and 3,000 likes in a day.

On March 11th, 2025, X[5] user @ALPHATEAM76 posted a speech bubbling meme combined with a picture of a Ku Klux Klan member, captioning it, "'Hood weeb' – hooded weebs." The post amassed over 130,000 views and 8,900 likes in a day.
