Yeah, the term "alicorn" originally meant the unicorn's horn itself. That was the traditional meaning of the word, used a lot during the middle ages (because they thought those things had uber medicinal properties).

The term as it is used in the brony fandom came from… well, I'm not really sure. I think it just sorta started being used as such, in one of those "well this fan said it that way so I will too" sorta things.

Good job fandom, we've probably caused a drastic change in that word's etymology forever. Woohoo!
