Satoru Iwata - A true master of game design

zvxfm: Apparently, Satoru Iwata was a genius programmer. Remember Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal? Remember being pleasantly surprised when you found that, after traveling the continent of Johto, acquiring 8 badges, and completing the Pokemon League in Mt. Silver, you could travel to another continent called Kanto and acquire 8 more badges? Remember that final battle with "Red", the game's version of Ash (complete with his powerful Pikachu)? All of that fits on a 2 MB cartridge, and it was all thanks to Mr. Iwata. GameFreak had trouble trying to fit Johto into the game, so Nintendo sent Mr. Iwata to help. He streamlined the code so much, that not only did they have enough room for Johto, but they could fit in all of Kanto, as well! (edit source) I never knew this before today. Gold Version was my first Pokemon game, as well as the first game I owned on a portable handheld. Rest in peace, Mr. Iwata.

Not to mention that he saved EarthBound from cancellation by reprogramming the game from scratch when its code was too broken to work. This man wasn't just a genius, he was a GOD.

I actually knew about this for some time. He also helped save HAL Laboratory from bankruptcy back in 1993.
