"challenger approaching" or "a new foe has appeared" is a youtube poop fad in whichYoutube members create fake unlockable characters from the nintendo videogame franchise Super Smash Bros as a suggestion or for humorous effect. as seen in the videos above, in all three games of the Super Smash Bros. series, in order to unlock a character you must win a battle against them. Before you battle said character, a title screen appears announcing "challenger approaching" and a completely black image of the unlockable character is seen to the right of the screen. While many of these videos (if not all) are of low quality, they can be seen almost as a form of fan fiction. They may not be made with entertainment value in mind or to wow you with realism but rather to provoke the thought "what if this character really was in Super Smash Bros." like many things on the internet this fad can play on nostalgia aswell.
