When she was under Celestias tutelage, she heard about the legend of Nightmare Moon and the return of the Elements of Harmony, she thought that if she was both very powerful and became the long foretold Element of Magic, she would gain Celestias ultimate approval and maybe even become a princess the same way Cadence did before her. She adored Celestia, and wanted to become more powerful faster so that when the upcoming thousandth year, she would fulfill the destiny she thought she had, to become the Element of Magic and redeem Luna. Of course, this destiny wasn't hers, it was Twilight Sparkles proved herself superior and dominant to others, she would prove herself to be better. After realizing that Celestia liked Twilight more, she thought that she would be second to nopony, and found the mirror wanted to prove herself dominant to others, so she became mean and spiteful in order to make the other people at the school fear her. When she got the crown, she originally wanted to trap Twilight in the human world while she would transform form of dominance that to control everyone around you as they conquer a world you now see as inferior? So the crown turned her into a demon who's mind was completely obliterated, leaving nothing but a monster who didn't care about Celestia anymore, only a lust for power and control So when she was turned back into a human by the Elements of Harmony, she realized that there was a magic stronger than any other that she had no idea existed, friendship. So if the story of Equestria Girls is further explored, then Sunset will be the focus as she learns the magic of friendship in a world with seemingly no magic. Her story would not only be one of friendship, but one of redemption as she takes time and understanding to discover the magic that Twilight used to free her. 0

This would be a pretty solid backstory for Sunset shimmer, But its not going to matter until they give more in depth look on why she did it, Instead of one line of Dialogue saying she was "Impatient, and wanted to go faster on learning magic. So she decides to go on the easy route, and that is EVIL!"
