Reminds me of a fanfic where Celestia is literally unkillable, so after an an unspecified apocalypse (fic takes place After the End), Celestia is still alive, moving among the ruins of Canterlot, a starved husk of her former self. Charred, torn skin, nearly-featherless wings, the whole thing.

For most of the fic, she's too insane to even realize what has happened. She's just going through a perverse routine, hallucinations letting her believe the world is perfectly normal.

But during the ending, she has one moment of lucidity, looking at a mirror, seeing herself for what she truly is now. It was quite a chilling moment.
