About
Luna Snow, real name Seol Hee, is a South Korean superhero character in Marvel Comics who possesses cryokinetic superpowers and who also is a popular K-pop idol. Originally debuting as a character in the mobile game Marvel: Future Fight, Luna Snow was integrated into the Marvel Universe in 2019 and has since appeared in several comic storylines. In 2024, the character was featured in the hero shooter video game Marvel Rivals, leading to a massive surge in her popularity online.
Origin
In Marvel Universe, Luna Snow (real name Soul Hee) is a South Korean K-pop idol who acquired superpowers after her opening show was attacked and she got trapped inside a cold fusion reactor that malfunctioned. The incident granted Luna cryokinetic abilities, including the ability to create dark ice with destructive properties and to use ice for healing purposes.[1] Luna Snow is a young South Korean woman with black-and-white hair who has heterochromia, meaning that her eyes are of different colors.
The character debuted in the mobile video game Marvel: Future Fight, added to the game on January 24th, 2018.[2] The debut was accompanied by the release of a live-action trailer, with Luna dancing and singing (Marvel: Future Fight promotional art shown below).[3]
In the following years, multiple K-pop songs by Luna Snow were released on YouTube.[4][5]
The character made her debut in Marvel Comics in 2019, appearing in War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1 (May 2019). She later appeared in the 2019 Agents of Atlas series, the 2019 Future Fight Firsts: Luna Snow one-shot, the 2022 Silk series and in the 2022 Tiger Division series, among other comics (Tiger Division Vol.11 cover art shown below).[6]
Luna Snow was created by Bill Rosemann, Danny Koo and Jee-Hyung Lee.
Spread
Beyond the Marvel community, the character did not achieve significant popularity until December 2024, when the character was featured as one of the heroes in the hero shooter video game Marvel Rivals. In Marvel Rivals, Luna Snow is a Strategist hero who is able to heal her team and freeze opponents with her abilities.
Following the release of the game, Luna Snow achieved major popularity on social media as the subject of cosplay and fan art, including Rule 34 fan art, similar to Squirrel Girl, another Marvel character popularized by the game.
