Old people grew up in an era when they communicated face-to-face rather than on social media. In fact, most of the generations that are still around did, too. But when you spent the first fifty years of your life without internet access, that makes you're not super likely to understand the modern conveniences and channels of communication that technology has to offer. For those who aren't accustomed to getting phone calls or emails from older relatives asking how to open the web browser on their phone, just scrolling through Facebook for a few minutes can prove how out-of-touch with the internet the older generation is.
They might be older and wiser, but they certainly don't understand everything out there.
