Memes Of The Week: October 25th, 2019
I walked across / an empty land / I covered memes like the back of my hand…
Yes, it's time for memes of the week. This week, Nancy Pelosi pointed at the president and a Russian suicide became a shock video, which made for some big YIKES in the meme community this week, but there was also some Paul Rudd, which is always a welcome sight. Let's take a look at the memes of this mixed bag of an October week.
Video 1444
Let's get this monster out of the way. Video 1444 is a clip of a stream in which a Russian man shoots himself with an assault rifle. It's extremely graphic and very brutally shocking and should not be viewed by anyone. It went up on the now-deleted YouTube channel GORE under the name "1444" and was quickly removed, but not before it was seen just enough to spread as a shock-video akin to Momo among Spanish-speaking internet users. It's one of those internet phenomena that simply spreads because of how awful and depressing it is, which unfortunately means it's draws a massive amount of popularity. A big YIKES on this one, my dudes.
Nancy Pelosi Pointing At Donald Trump
The never-ending circus that is American politics continued into 12439th act this week, as Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi got into a showdown with the President during a meeting that led to this photograph:
Trump said it was a photo of "Nervous Nancy's unhinged meltdown." Others saw the photo as Pelosi asserting her dominance over the President. It was one of those political Rorschach tests where people on the right sided with the President while people on the left gushed about Pelosi's stance. While the long-term effects of the picture remain to be seen, it certainly gave a lot of people something to talk about this week, which was only further fueled by a bewildering edit by the Kamala Harris team which showed Pelosi yelling at Harris, for some reason.
STFU I'm Listening To
One of the funniest formats of the week showed a man ignoring his screaming lady friend outside of his car while he appeared to turn the music in the car up. This made for an easy exploitable in which the song could be altered, which sounds pretty simple on paper, but actually turned into some incredibly good memes. There's something hilarious about the man drowning out the woman screaming at him to, say, "Wagon Wheel." Cheers to this meme, which somehow became one of the funniest templates of the week.
Hey, Look at Us
Finally, we have Paul Rudd coming through in this week's top wholesome template. In a recent appearance on Hot Ones, Rudd congenially says "Hey, look at us!" to host Sean Evans, as if to say, "Who'd have thought we'd ever be here!" The genuinely goofy but heartfelt moment made for a hilarious-yet-wholesome series of memes which took the clip out of context. Top captions paired with the clip include, "Me smoking with my friends who said we’d never touch a drug in our lives," and "When you make next morning brunch plans when you’re hammered and then actually follow through with them." It's a meme that just works, and it's easy to enjoy because Paul Rudd is easy on the eyes and soul.
