The month is already halfway gone, and the memes are still flowing nicely. In fact, we haven't had a big meme drought in quite a while, which bodes well as we get closer to the holiday season. Depending on where you were in the world this past weekend, it could have been a longer one than usual, giving shitposters more time to spread memes around before returning to work or school. The memes that stood out this time around were the cringe chart Left-Wing Games vs. Right-Wing Games, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, and the “sounds like a Final Fantasy accessory” — Regeneron.

Left-Wing Games vs. Right-Wing Games

Left-Wing Games vs. Right-Wing Games refers to a series of memes that were based around a chart posted on Twitter back in June. The chart lists many games and game series as being either "left-wing" or "right-wing," and it gives a little generalized context for how games were chosen, but offers no deeper meaning in these choices. The chart itself quickly became a meme as many people started posting their own examples of left-wing games vs. right-wing games, or attacking the creator of the original chart. As the political season keeps increasing in intensity, memes like this have the potential to stay for a while until politics has calmed down overall.

Kobe and Lebron

Kobe Bryant and LeBron James were back in the meme spotlight after the LA Lakers won the NBA Finals in six games on Sunday. Anytime a sports team wins a championship, there are memes made by the fans, but this one had a lot of extra magic going for it. Namely, Disney magic, as the NBA playoffs were played entirely out of Disney's ESPN worldwide sports on Walt Disney World property.

Kobe fits into the picture as he was a legendary LA Laker himself who tragically passed away earlier this year, leading many to say that the Lakers playoff run was dedicated to him. The players even wore jerseys that were custom designed by Kobe himself. The recent memes surrounding this win center around either praise for LeBron and Anthony Davis, memorializing Kobe Bryant or making fun of LeBron and the playoff format because hating on LeBron is a time-honored tradition, as he is currently the closest thing to a lolcow the NBA meme world has. Memes in sports communities aren't as picture-centric as in other meme subcultures, but the ones that they do make into pictures are sentiments often echoed by the majority of those fans, as seen this weekend.

Regeneron

Regeneron is the next chapter in the Donald and Melania Trump Positive COVID-19 test saga. After being in the hospital for several days, Donald Trump recorded a message and posted it to Twitter claiming that Regeneron, a medicine that sounds like it belongs in Pokemon, was responsible for his quick recovery and that he feels much better because of it. This is not the first time that Trump has touted the medical benefits of an obscure medicine, but much like Trump's injecting disinfectant remarks, this led to a new slew of memes in recent days.
