About

Can I Move to Scotland (or How to Move to Scotland) refers to series of tweets by Twitter users, mainly from England in response to the result of the 2019 United Kingdom general election where England voted for a majority Conservative Party whilst in Scotland, people voted for the Scottish National Party (SNP).

With the SNP supporting Scottish independence and European Union membership and the Conservative Party supporting the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, many Remain supporters from England expressed moving to Scotland in the face of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union and the prospect of Scotland gaining independence from the United Kingdom, in attempt to be back in the European Union.

Origin

After the result of the 2019 United Kingdom general election which returned a Conservative Party majority government, Remain supporters had conceded defeat and various considered moving to Scotland after the SNP won a landslide victory gaining 48 out of Scotland's 59 seats on a campaign platform of Scotland becoming an independent country and rejoining the European Union.

After the election was finished, "how to move to Scotland" spiked in search results on Google and a series of tweets on "can I move to Scotland" appeared on Twitter.
