Overview

The Mcsnack_5 Fatphobic Video is a viral video uploaded to TikTok by user @mcsnack_5, a woman purportedly with celiac disease, where she shames an overweight woman in an airport for eating, calling her a "two-tonne Tilly." The TikTok drew widespread backlash from viewers who called her out for "fat shaming" and being "fatphobic." In response, Mcsnack posted a video defending her stance, resulting in further criticism, people exposing her public social media accounts and her deleting the posts.

Background

On November 8th, 2022, TikToker[1] @mcsnack_5, who purportedly has celiac disease that restricts her diet and makes her unable to process gluten,[2] posted a video where she covertly films an overweight woman eating from a takeout container in the airport. In the video, she says, "You see my, I can't eat anything but you've got a two-tonne Tilly over here eating everything while I can't eat anything." The video has since been removed but was duetted and stitched multiple times by TikTokers shortly after. For example, TikToker[3] @thejoeyswoll posted a video response that day shaming Mcsnack for her clip, garnering over 2.9 million views in a day (shown below, left). Others shared her additional public social media accounts to shed light on who she is, including TikToker[4] @ch4rmy_ch4rms, whose video gained over 168,000 views in a day (shown below, right).

Developments

In response to the backlash, @mcsnack_5 then posted a TikTok on November 8th, 2022, captioned "#celiacdiseaseawareness" where she defends herself for the original video. As her defense, she mentions how she's had celiac disease for 10 years and that it's a struggle going from eating what you want to eating a limited diet. She also complains that there are very few places that carry gluten-free products. She says that the only thing she could eat at the airport was a salad and it made her frustrated.

At the end of the video, she says, "to watch someone feeding their face when they're obese … honestly, it's a health risk. I had a salad and guess what? The salad had mold on it, so I couldn't even fucking eat the salad. So I was frustrated […] I'm not against obese people but come on, it's a quality of life." The video was deleted but reuploaded to the subreddit /r/tiktokgossip[5] on November 8th (shown below).

The video inspired a similarly negative response as the original fatphobic video as people criticized @mcsnack_5 for refusing to apologize and attempting to make herself the victim. On November 8th, TikToker[6] @the_realbearded1 posted a video criticizing her, garnering over 170,000 views in a day (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker[7] @revtimoth posted a video asking her why she deleted the videos, garnering over 96,000 views in a day (shown below, right).
