#feedthepatrick is a hashtag that became very popular during the night from 5th to 6th januar, 2013.
Origin
To celebrate his 100K subscribers, a french minecraft youtuber named Aypierre made with his friend Azenet a special computer on their minecraft server, that was able to display all tweets with the #feedthepatrick on a screen. Then Aypierre did a live showing this and asked the viewers to tweet #feedthepatrick to check if it was working.
Spread
That's when the hashtag started growing out of control, a lot of people tweeting it, at first in the minecraft community, french and english, and then people that weren't even playing the game. The tweets where it appeared were mostly retweets, but very ppopular people tweeted it and that's what caused the buzz (some tweets with it got 4000 retweets in an hour).
In a few hours it got up to the world top trend, with a massive amount of tweets:
