About

"I Stabbed Someone" TikToks refers to parodies of a TikTok posted by user @jadeburton15 that uses text-to-speech to say "I stabbed someone. Self-defense. Killing me." The clip confused users who thought her admission might be fake due to her using Normani's "Wild Side" as the backing track and including stylish transitions and filters, all of which seemed ill-fitting for such a grave statement. The video led to parodies in which people used the same text-to-speech feature but heightened the tonal dissonance of the original.

Origin

@jadeburton15's original TikTok has been deleted, but it was reposted to iFunny[1] on October 4th, 2021 by user lonelyHolUpv8. It was also posted to /r/ImTheMainCharacter[2] by user EternaChaos that day (shown below).

Spread

As @jadeburton15's video appeared on other users' feeds, other TikTokers began parodying it by mimicking or heightening the effects used in the original. User @thatotheralex posted a parody that gained over 68,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). User @sarahsharaff posted a similar parody that gained over 48,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

On October 5th, TikToker @noahglenncarter posted a video summarizing the situation and the developing meme, noting that @jadeburton15 continued to post after her controversial video with no allusion to the stabbing. The meme was covered by the Daily Dot.[3]
