"Love Cheat!" is the opening theme song for Itadaki Jan-Gari-an R (Japanese: いただきじゃんがりあんR)^[1], a Japanese adult Mahjong visual novel released by Studio Miris^[2] in 2005. The song and well-crafted opening sequence of the game became an early subject to a series of parody remixes on Nico Nico Douga since March 2007.

Origin

The eroge visual novel Itadaki Jan-Gari-an R was created by Studio Miris and was released in Japan on August 5th, 2005, and with it's theme song "Love Cheat!" being performed by Mosaic.wav, a danpa band who also performed the theme for Figu@Mate, which also gained popularity on Niconico during 2007.

The visual novel is acclaimed for its opening credit sequence; created by the Japanese animator URA^[3], it is regarded among Japanese Otakus as one of the few masterpieces in terms of motion graphics in promotional videos for eroge visual novels.

According to Nico Nico Pedia^[4], an internet encyclopedia for Niconico, the opening was one of many popular videos during the beta stage of Niconico after it was submitted to the site on January 2007, and would later be uploaded on the day of the site's relaunch.^[5] Soon, one of the earliest hit MAD video parodying the opening would be posted in March 30th, 2007,^[6] which was based on the Japanese anime / manga series Akagi^[7] and Kaiji.^[8]

Being viewed more than 55,000 times before being taken down, the video, and as well as others, would help inspire users on the Niconico in trying their hand in recreating the complex opening, where it later reached it's height of popularity during the Summer of 2008. As of April 2014, nearly over 300 videos relating the song has since been uploaded to Niconico.^[9]
