Well, this came from GameFAQs, which is a very crazy place. Specifically, it came from the xbox360 modernwarfare 2 board, which is rather popular and full of a wide variety of posters.

Basically, some poor guy creates a topic, and a poster replies with a (un)related philosophy quote of some kind, doesn't have to be a real quote actually.

Some replies are actually funny, but not all are.

This "meme" is all in good fun and isn't extremely annoying like some other memes and fads.

This meme will go anywhere where there are no more real discussions or everything has been completely discussed already for the most part.
