Bad employees - I can fire them for poor performance. "Good" employees - however - are a harder problem. They won't be great. They won't be terrible. Even though I can give them all the support they need to succeed... Even though I try and give them the motivation to push themselves... They'll still just be okay. But they won't be bad enough to let go. These employees cost me more than a bad one does in the long run. Beware the mediocre. What I got back was, honestly, shocking: One-word answers Generic, copy-paste responses (using Al) Answers that barely scratched the surface This wasn't for some junior role. This was a senior-level role with serious responsibilities. To those who need a reminder: In this market, you need to put effort into every single stage of the hiring process... not just the interview. No. + Follow I emailed the candidate after waiting to check in and make sure everything was alright since he didn't show. He responded that he had car issues and the situation took longer than anticipated. What did I do? Rescheduled the interview. Why? Because life happens. On LinkedIn, 9/10 applicants who submit their resume as a PDF for our openings, we can't view. How many opportunities have YOU missed?
