About
The Smash Ball is a very well known item from the Super Smash Bros series. Upon breaking it, the Smash Ball allows the player to perform a very special attack, known as the Final Smash. However, you could have a helpful or useless Final Smash depending on the character you play as.
Origins
Smash Balls were originally going to be in Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 64, but were taken out for unknown reasons. Proof of this can be found by searching through the game's data and finding unused voice clips for Captain Flacon and Ness that were used in Brawl for their Final Smashes. They were finally seen for the first time in the third installment of the Super Smash Bros series, Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii.
Spread
When fans found out about Final Smashes, they started to do many things about the Smash Ball, such as making parodies, animations and even hacking the game to replace existing Final Smashes with new ones.
Final Smash Predictions
Since the release the announcement of Super Smash Bros Brawl, people have been requesting characters to be in future Smash Bros games. However with all Smash Bros characters since Brawl having a Final Smash, some people started thinking of Final Smashes, as well. On March 31st, Sakurai uploaded a screenshot of Super Smash Bros for Wii U showing Luigi with his Poltergust 5000 after breaking a Smash Ball. This lead to a lot of speculation, most notably wether or not veterans would have new Final Smashes.
