About

Missing 2013 is an exploitable 4-panel template in which a person is using a computer in a certain year, remembers himself using a computer in a previous year, and tears up. In most iterations, the year remembered is 2013. The template grew into an exploitable as it began being associated with the poster's attitudes towards certain media they no longer enjoy as much as they did in the past.

Origin

The earliest known post of the exploitable was posted to 4chan by an anonymous user on April 8th, 2017.[1] In the example, the character is on the computer in 2026 remembering 2016 (shown below, left). The final panel is taken from different comic in which a man expresses his superiority for being single but tears up in the final panel (shown below, right).

For me it's less about missing years gone by even though I was doing the exact same thing back then as I'm doing now, haha gotcha what a dumbass, and more about realizing just how little I've accomplished since then and how much time I've wasted – and fearing that, despite my best efforts to change things, I will end up looking back to this moment, too.
