Uvuvwevwevwe is the first name of a man identifying himself as Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetenyevwe Ugwemuhwem Osas in a Kenyan sketch comedy video. Online, the video has often been referred to as "The Hardest Name In Africa."

Origin

On November 24th, 2016, the Kenyans.co.ke Facebook page uploaded a video titled "This Man Has The Hardest Name In Africa," in which a man identifies himself as "Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetenyevwe Ugwemuhwem Osas" while being interviewed on camera (shown below). Over the next several months, the video accumulated upwards of 33 million views, 554,000 shares and 210,000 comments.



Spread

On November 29th, YouTube finddarkpoet uploaded a remix video in which Uvuvwevwevwe is edited into a scene from Breaking Bad (shown below, left). On December 1st, 2016, YouTuber Robbero reuploaded the comedy sketch, gathering more than 2.1 million views and 1,700 comments over the next two months.[4] On December 7th, 2016, YouTuber JTOnline uploaded a montage of remixes featuring the "Uvuvwevwevwe" audio clip (shown below). That day, a Facebook[2] page titled "Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetenyevwe Ugwemuhwem Osas" was launched.



On December 8th, Urban Dictionary[1] user ordinaryguyfromindonesia submitted an entry for "uvuvwevwevwe," defining it as "a viral African guy who has a remarkable name" (shown below).

On December 12th, YouTuber Eka Gustiwana uploaded a music remix of the original comedy sketch, garnering more than 1.2 million views and 1,700 comments over the next month (shown below, left). On December 16th, YouTuber Brandon Kent uploaded a prank video in which he identifies himself as ""Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetenyevwe Ugwemuhwem Osas" to random strangers (shown below). Within one month, the video gained over 1.07 million views and 1,100 comments. On December 18th, Redditor Nisc3d submitted a post claiming to have remembered a different spelling for the name on the /r/MandelaEffect subreddit.[3]
