Comedian Gilbert Gottfried, long known as one of the most iconic voices in standup comedy, passed away today at the age of 67. The news was first broken by comedian and actor Jason Alexander, and his family confirmed the news in a Twitter post minutes later.

The message stated Gottfried had succumbed to a long illness and encouraged people to keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor.

Gottfried was well-known in comic circles and was best known to the general public as the voice of Iago the parrot in the 1991 Disney film Aladdin. He was also a regular on Hollywood Squares, the voice of the Aflac duck and a staple of Comedy Central Roast specials.

In recent years, Gottfried was well-known for his Cameos in which he read copypastas and other internet culture references, such as his famous poggers clip in 2019.

The news stunned social media and well wishes poured out from fellow actors and fans who appreciated his work.

Poetically, Gottfried's final television role was as God in an episode of Smiling Friends. Gottfried's death closely follows the passing of comedians Norm Macdonald and Bob Saget, both of whom were Gottfried's friends.
