Hulu Removes Astroworld Documentary After Backlash

With only three weeks separating us from the Astroworld concert tragedy, Hulu released a documentary on the event, drawing the ire of those affected by the event, as well as those who felt it was too soon to try and make such a program.
The documentary, titled Astroworld Concert From Hell, was not well received, as people quickly took to Twitter to share their disgust at not just Hulu, but many streaming outlets that do similar things.

Hulu making a documentary about Astroworld is in poor taste all around.
People are still burying their loved ones. The legal cases haven’t even started.
Great documentaries are done when all the facts are laid out. Not enough time has passed to fully discuss this.— Petty Slimane (@LilAioli) December 2, 2021
Astroworld victims haven’t been put in the ground yet, and the media already has a special on Hulu. 🤢 We are in hell

Not everyone was unanimously against them, however. For some, it was impressive that Hulu was able to compile so much information about a still ongoing tragedy and have it in a releasable format in such a short time. This need to gather documentary evidence after tragedies has been in a significant uptick since the Fyre Festival fiasco and Tiger King documentary that seemingly took over the web last year.

i love that the people who were apparently SO MAD someone was “profiting” off of astroworld by making a news report didn’t stop for a moment to even figure out who they were mad at or who they believed was profiting from it. they just saw hulu and didn’t go “hm who produced it?”

The backlash did appear to result in Hulu making the decision to remove the documentary from its platform, much to the joy of many online. Though the backlash was certainly part of it, the officially listed reason was that it gave the impression that Hulu itself created the documentary, when it was actually a product of ABC that was aired as a news special (a story which was not totally bought by social media).

Hulu removes 'Astroworld' documentary after social media backlash. GOOD! It's way too soon to make a "documentary" about a tragedy that is still unfolding. Victims are likely still injured, maybe in the hospital and a biased documentary may impact future legal cases. #Hulu pic.twitter.com/PpYABmbjSJ

Hulu has removed the newly released documentary special called “Astroworld: Concert From Hell” after backlash.
The documentary was removed to “avoid confusion.” The company made it clear it was aired & created originally by ABC in Houston.
