The Only Thing That Slapped At The 2022 Grammys Was The Music And Memes

The 2022 Grammy Awards were full of interesting events and even some memes, though nothing quite as viral as what happened at the Oscars last week. The host, comedian Trevor Noah, remained unslapped over the course of the night (unlike Chris Rock, who was struck by Will Smith last Sunday — in case you didn’t know that yet).

The standout winner of the night was Jon Batiste, the bandleader of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, who won five awards, including "Album of the Year," for his eighth studio album WE ARE.

Despite many preliminary theories about big winners at the event, Lil Nas X did not win a Grammy, and so will presumably turn in his "Illuminati resignation letter" soon, according to a recent tweet from the rapper, singer and songwriter.

Lil Nas X’s performance of “Industry Baby” with rapper Jack Harlow, however, was widely praised — particularly Harlow’s dance moves, which provoked significant thirst on platforms like Twitter into today.

Harlow, however, has not yet answered the important question of whether there was Miller Lite at the Grammys or not.

Taehyung of BTS (which host Trevor Noah called “the biggest band in the world”) also inspired much passion from stans online, trending worldwide for hours on Twitter.

Others memed about a moment where Noah asked BTS member Namjoon who his favorite Friends character was, and got “Chandler” as an answer.

Doja Cat, who was recently involved in a very contentious Twitter beef with the nation of Paraguay that led her to announce she was quitting music, won a Grammy with SZA. She was in the bathroom when her name was announced and reportedly took the “fastest piss of her life,” but even her highly memed acceptance speech failed to win over some Paraguayan fans, who remained incensed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the audience at the Grammys, speaking about the situation of musicians in Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis in the country. He called on musicians to raise awareness about the ongoing war. His speech was followed by a John Legend performance, with some users commenting on the contrast between a lighthearted celebrity spectacle and an impassioned plea for aid.

By the end of the night, nobody was slapped, but perhaps the awards ceremony itself did … or the tunes and performances at least.
