On the night of MTV's 2011 Video Music Award, Grammy-winning artist Beyonce announced her pregnancy before the audience and 12 million viewers who were watching the ceremony at home. The news quickly travelled via Twitter in real-time and as a result, a new Twitter world record was set at 8,868 tweets per second.
