Notes:

Dwight Eisenhower didn't want high taxes, but he did use the already high tax rates under Truman to pay down the debt(he did cut the top rate by 1%). Yes he did expands and create certain federal agencies and programs but the most was done for expanding commerce and national defense (interstate highway act, NASA, DARPA…)

Eisenhower did offer up some social spending, but he also restrained the size of the federal government, and certainly would be against most of what Bernie wants. Ike stood firmly against Keynesian spending practices and held his ground with sound money. He was no far right republican, but it's clear Sander's doesn't actually understand socialism, especially if you are going off of just the top tax rate. When Kennedy finally did cut it, the economy did grow, but so did the deficit. It's a balancing act, and Eisenhower did all that he could to solve the nation's problems at the time.
