Yeah, we have no information about where Spike's egg came from and anything about his mother.

Not even the comics touched that subject.

Hmm, maybe it's setting up some FE:Fates scenario, where Spike has to choose between his important role from his birth family or continue to be with his horse kin.
And while I'm asking for ludicrous things, how about retconing out the entire 3rd season.
