The videos are typically narrated by a male Italian text-to-speech AI voice rhyming the characters' names with absurd statements about religion or random topics. The memes started in early January 2025 on TikTok with Tralalero Tralala, a shark wearing Nike shoes, and later gained viral traction with Bombardiro Crocodilo, a military bomber plane with a crocodile face, Lirili Larila, a cactus elephant walking in the desert with flippers and many other absurd memetic characters.

Origin

The exact origin of Italian brainrot memes is unknown, but sometime in early January 2025 TikTok^[1] user @eZburger401 uploaded the Tralalero Tralala AI video, which featured a shark wearing Nike shoes accompanied by the male Italian text-to-speech voice rhyming, "Tralalero Tralala, Goddamn God and goddamn Allah, I was with my damn kid, shit, playing Fortnite, when at one point my grandma comes in."

@eZburger401's account has since been banned from TikTok, but @elchino1246^[2] used the original soundbite in a post on January 8th, 2025, adding the "Tralalero Tralala" meme along with an AI-generated image of a shark outside the water with pigeon legs. The post gained roughly 19,000 plays and 422 likes in three months.

On January 13th, 2025, TikToker^[3] @amoamimandy.1a posted the earliest known notable video to use the "Tralalero Tralala" AI image, showing the shark wearing blue Nike shoes. The video gathered over 17 million plays and 1 million likes in three months.

Italian brainrot memes became exponentially popularized on TikTok in the next few months, spawning a series of AI-animal images merged with objects usually accompanied by a male Italian text-to-speech voice rhyming the characters' names.

For example, on March 14th, 2025, TikTok^[4] user @tjantv uploaded a rank of all the brainrot Italian animal memes, amassing more than 7 million plays and 620,000 likes in five days.

On March 17th, 2025, YouTuber^[5] @nazarsmemes posted a video featuring all Italian Brainrot AI Animals, which received roughly 17,000 views and 842 likes in two days.
