Steven Universe - We don't really know if he's a one time character or not though; that's the one thing I'm wondering about

Is he really racist, though? He called them hippies, not some made-up racial slur. Beyond that, he was confused by these eccentric strangers who moved into his barn, not to mention dismantling his family's plane. Could someone explain to me at what point he was racist, or are his accent and conservative attitude the evidence here?
