It was popcorn, and nowhere near as good or popular as the famous cookies, but we still did it, and no one said word one about how it was emasculating or degrading. I was in scouting for years, as a cub, webelos, and boy scout, and my troop wasn't particularly religious, which was fine since I was a budding atheist, but they still taught me a lot of valuable stuff. The most basic of which is outdoors and survival skills, which are about as gender neutral as you can get. What does your gender or sex have to do with staying alive in the wilderness if you need to? More valuable than that, though, was being a loyal person, a compassionate member of my community, and that helping others is the goal you should always be striving towards. It angers, saddens, and upsets me anytime someone uses the Boy Scouts as an object to further their own sexism or bigotry, because it flies in the face of every single value I was taught for a decade of being a scout. The scout oath says you should do your best to be helpful to others at all times, and the scout laws say you should be a friend to everyone, even if they're different from you, to help others without expecting any reward, to be courteous, kind, and even to respect the religious beliefs of others, just to name a few. How anyone could truly hold the beliefs that scouting has been based on for decades and support this, or any other nonsensical objections to scouting being more inclusive is unfathomable to me. These people disgust me.
