Yet, we can say with confidence what was at the core of his motivation. For whatever reason, he had come to the conclusion that from this point on, his life would be one of mediocrity. Unable to find peace with that, he sought the pinnacle of his dream right in the here and now. Sure, he could have thought like a n----- and went out shooting up his workplace, killing beforehand any that he felt had wronged him. But isn't that saying that their lives are more valuable than his own? An equitable trade? There was no malice, no guilt slinging, nary more than an off-hand mention of the inequality he had been subject to, while at the same time owning up to his own decision. He simply wished to realize his dream, and the realization of that dream he felt was an equitable trade of his remaining time. For those who follow esotericism, consider the unlikely placement which resulted in the existence of the video documenting the incredible flight maneuver he pulled off. An early report I read only stated he had flown upside-down, which is what we would have been left with had not the person filming been fortuitously lined up for that breathtaking footage. Further, Rich himself had doubted his ability to successfully perform the maneuver. Just prior he jokingly asked if 5,000 were adequate to perform a barrel roll. We may not know if he was at 5,000, but we can say that had he been 100 lower he would have crashed into the sea. I believe intent weighs heavily in the judgment of our deeds, and it would seem that the universe deemed his endeavor worthy of being both successful as well as renowned So, while some of us are left with this odd, empty feeling of mourning over someone we have never met, you might consider that what we are actually mourning are our own selves.
