There is a possibility that the main timeline the entire MCU took place in has always been the one with "Old Man Rogers". Peggy Carter's husband has never been named, and she was suffering from dementia when Steve visited her in Winter Soldier. We don't even see the husband in any of her family photos, yet she did have a picture of Young Steve on her office desk.
