Actually, there is a theory that the 2016 Doomguy is the kid of OG doomguy…
okey, let me explain it.

The theory goes that after Doom 64, OG Doomguy got stuck in hell but found a way out into Argent D'Nur.

He then joined / Helped the sentinels, got a wife and had a Kid. His kid then grows up and become the Leader of the Night Sentinels and later the Doom Slayer…

So we got two generations of Demon Killing Psychopaths…
