About

Here Lies Wokeness 2015-2024 refers to a series of AI-generated images showing a grave with a blue hair wig and the headstone text "here lies wokeness 2015-2024," referencing the woke internet slang term. The images appeared on Facebook in late November 2024, shortly after President Donald Trump won the 2024 United States Presidential Election. The woke tombstone meme resurfaced in early March 2025 on X, spawning recaptions and ironic texts written over the "woke" text in the original.

Origin

On November 12th, 2024, X[5] user @KashleeGarcia posted the earliest known AI-generated image of a headstone with a blue wig on top of it and the message, "Here lies Wokeness, 2015-2024," written on it. The first viral mention of the image, however, was uploaded on November 16th by the Facebook[1] page America's Last Line Of Defense, who captioned the image, "All I can say is, thank god it's finally over." The post (seen below) received more than 5,700 likes and 2,100 shares in five months.

Facebook page The Don't Unfriend Me Show uploaded the earliest known "here lies wokeness" AI-generated image, captioning "The final resting place of Wokeness, 2015–2024, survived by common sense and free thought."

Spread

The wokeness headstone meme went viral in the next few months, largely among Donald Trump supporters. For instance, on December 13th, 2024, X[2] / Twitter owner Elon Musk retweeted the AI image shared by user @CarlaDigru38122, who wrote, "Woke is dead ☠️." The tweet (seen below) amassed over 1.6 million views and 22,000 likes in three months.

Why would they want wokeness to die? Being Anti-Woke has been the secret to success in the Republican party, if Wokeness died they'd have to find a new boogeyman and I don't think they have the creativity to muster up a new one as effective as "Everything I don't like is woke."
