About
Hype Moments and Aura refers to a catchphrase often used in contrast to "good writing," popularized by the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom in 2024. Jokes about shows, books or video games relying on hype moments and aura instead of good worldbuilding and writing continued into 2025, with people subsequently using the phrase to describe superficial and marketing-based popularity. Other franchises often diagnosed with being reliant on "hype moments and aura" include Metal Gear Rising and Dragon Ball Z.
Origin
One of the earliest mentions of the phrase "hype moments and aura" comes from a variation of the Y'all Got Any Fun meme featuring a scene from the 2004 Will Smith film I, Robot. The meme shows Smith as Del Spooner asking the robot, "Y'all got any good writing," to which the robot replies, "We got hype moments and aura."
