I was thinking "I wonder what people on Chinese social media think about all this" recently… then I remembered that there really is not much of an internet to speak for over there to begin with, so I bet they must be keeping the whole thing under the rug there.

Chinese nationalists have a chip on their shoulder. The CCP fosters a view of China as under constant threat and continually reminds people of the Century of Shame (colonialism by UK, Japan) and relies on ultra-nationalism to control the public opinion. Criticizing "China" is just not allowed.
