Nope, it actually did pretty well. Earning $218 million against a $70 million budget. Shrek did end up being a larger money maker overall though, a whopping $484 million at the box office compared to a $60 million budget. Dreamworks would still attempt another animated epic with Sinbad, but it did flop bad enough that they decided to drop doing traditionally animated films altogether (there was also Spirit, which was only a very mild success, though surprisingly Dreamworks did bring that IP back for a CGI Netflix show which has done well enough to earn Spirit one more movie that's coming out summer 2021).

To Disney's credit at least they tried to get back into traditionally animated films with Princess and the Frog and the 2011 Winnie the Pooh, it's just unfortunate the box office numbers for those gave a clear indicator that your "general, average audience" just doesn't seem to be as interested in traditional animation anymore (like yeah people my age range love traditional animation since we grew up on it, but someone who has grown up in the age of Pixar and post-Shrek Dreamworks will probably hold a preference to CG animation).
