Crossover - Lupin The Third vs. Inspector Gadget

I've heard before that Inspector Gadget was the final result of an effort to bring Lupin III to the states, hence why he looks like he's borrowing Zenigata's wardrobe. But that's just hearsay and I don't know how true that is.

Knowing writing tropes, Gadget would be the only person capable of successfully catching Lupin, and all via Rube-Goldberg levels of accidental capturing technique. The problem would be that Zenigata or some other Lupin antagonist would immediately not believe him, takes him out of Gadget's custody, and at which point Lupin immediately escapes from said antagonist.

That or Lupin lets himself get caught out of pity.
