This reminds me of my geometrically challenged self, back when getting a starter job and starting saving right away for an empty plot of land and building materials – hence some mathings on how much brick and mortar it goes – I couldn't get over how a square had always more area than any rectangle of the same perimeter.

Screenshot is good, but is there a link to the full interview that may be useful for the rest of us to read?

I'd say that "what was being said in the original language" also depends on factors like the nature of the work, the target audience, and the cultural context. For instance, the first Animal Crossing is widely considered to have a far better localization than newer entries (to the point where it was backported to Japan with added features as Doubutsu no Mori e+), but it was actually the most liberal localization of the bunch thanks to Nintendo Treehouse wanting to make the experience as culturally familiar to an American audience as the Japanese version was to a Japanese audience (since as a life sim, it's meant to reflect the player's own sociocultural environment). As a result, it's a localization that follows the spirit rather than the letter yet still works really well.

Back when Clyde Mandelin, the director of the Mother 3 fan translation, was active online, I regularly followed his blog Legends of Localization, and it was a pretty neat look into the nuances of bringing games abroad, particularly how nebulous the definition of "what was said" can be. For instance, the SNES version of Super Mario RPG had a ton of anime references in the Japanese release, and the ones that weren't replaced entirely in the English version just got translated literally without accounting for the cultural context behind them, rendering them non-sequiturs.

Second follow up: the meta.

i don't think this is compelling, you researched but not in dept nor while thinking it through.
people could and can complain about anything, it isn't a sign of anything itself, remember people complained about a nemo summer skin for not being raunchy enough. that wasn't censor ship.
it's also why i don't complain about this being pretty old

if you want to put forth a reasonable argument that it could be an internal decision at Shiftup, definitive censorship is preferred.

and you most certainly don't want to show cross over characters.

this isn't present here, particularly when the apparently censored skin (no real proof of that) is so damn sexual that it's blurred by google images.
seriously go to the wiki and see what you're arguing, this is the fucking ass jiggle game. if you want to argue that Shiftup is not fucking degenerate as shit you're wrong.

meanwhile sony has a long and document history of "adjusting product for western audiences" to the point I know of it. I'm not much of an anime guy.

Imma level with you, i think this is the pettiest shit on the planet, but signs bend towards it being sony rather then the company that continually designs, renders and releases character models this raunchy.

it's pretty hard to convince me of that they were allowed to draw, design, make and ship these designs and at no point they didn't you know tweak it all before it shipped.

Example One:
There was an alleged datamine of this character where she had a different pose and did not wear a skirt.

Example 2:
The character only got the skin after a patch which is claimed to be because of said upset people, and probably those same people have been demanding the same for other characters wearing coats.

I saw a scene of this game being voiced and what I got from that segment is that this game is all about an angsty selfcestuos harem falling apart.

How accurate is my current assessment.

this poisoned my algorithm to actually fucking researching this.

example one: "winter shopper rupee is censored."
Unless you give a tl;dr i'm not getting it, literally it's the same image. i literally do not see any difference what between the chibi or not and this guy is physically painful to watch.

the charitable thing is they presumed that white fuzzy tube thing was a skirt or something (unless they're complaining about a 3 inch thick skirt which is a different can of worms), checked wiki doesn't appear to be attached and snooping on google suggests it's the same, this isn't just outdated info it looks like it's just wrong.

>second video
people are upset because they want to see ass jiggle.
looked it up on the wiki, the character has a skin without coat.
https://nikke-goddess-of-victory-international.fandom.com/wiki/Makima/Gallery
character is a crossover character, it's going to be subject to a rights holder negotiation, they can't do everything they want with it.

i'd put it as outdated/bad info.
