Actually it's to provide the surrounding town with a reliable food supply, thus furthering the town's economy and keeping the entire population well-fed and excited about their daily lives. However, it goes further than that. Growing apples is not just a business, nor is it simply a practice, it is an art. The youthful development of apples is a primordial school of belief, philosophy, and quite simply a way of life. The growth of an apple teaches one about not only the values, but the principals of raising a foal; the selling of the apple is letting go of that beloved fruit. And then, there still remains the sole life question: is it better to eat the apple and get it over with, or wait until the day it rots away and you've missed your chance? Is it better to keep the apple through your life as a companion and consultant? With the growth of apples, one can experience hope, rolling the dice, love, loss, pain, sorrow, and depression. It's a life changing experience.
